What do you do when someone tells you to "arise and shine," but everything around you seems to be falling apart?
Perhaps your plans did not work out. Maybe you are carrying disappointment, grief, financial pressure, family concerns, unanswered prayers, or the exhaustion that comes from trying to remain strong for everyone else.
And then Scripture says:
Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. (Isaiah 60:1, KJV)
At first, those words may feel almost impossible. Arise? Shine?
How do you shine when you feel tired? How do you rise when life has knocked you down? How do you move forward when you are still trying to understand what happened?
The answer is simple, but powerful: you do not arise because everything is perfect. You arise because God is still God.
Light Comes Because God Sends It
Light does not wait for your confidence to return. Light does not ask whether you feel ready. Light does not need darkness to give it permission.
Light comes because God sends it.
And beloved sister, heaven remembers your name even on the days when you struggle to remember who you are.
Before your parents named you, God knew you. Before anyone recognized your potential, God saw you. Before anyone celebrated your gifts, God had already placed purpose inside you.
You are not forgotten. Not in the waiting. Not in the disappointment. Not in the silence. Not in the season when everyone else seems to be moving forward while you feel stuck in the same place.
This season is not your entire story. This chapter is not the final page.
So, lift your head, even if it feels unsteady. Open your hands, even if they feel empty. Take another step, even if your knees are trembling. Whisper another prayer, even if your voice is shaking.
Permission to Be Loved
God is not demanding perfection from you. He is inviting you to receive His love, His strength, and His grace.
Sometimes women become so accustomed to caring for others that we forget how to receive. We give. We serve. We nurture. We encourage. We hold families together. We show up for work, ministry, children, spouses, parents, and friends.
But there are moments when God simply wants us to stop striving and allow ourselves to be loved.
Give yourself permission to be loved by the Creator of heaven and earth. Not because of what you have achieved. Not because you kept everything together. Not because you performed perfectly. But because you belong to Him.
Darkness Has Never Intimidated God
Isaiah 60 acknowledges that darkness exists. It does not pretend that life will always be easy. There may be darkness in the world, in relationships, in finances, in families, and even in places where we expected light.
But darkness has never intimidated God. His light reaches places nobody else can reach.
It finds us in the tears. It finds us in the confusion. It finds us when we are tired of being strong. It finds us when hope feels distant.
And when His light finds us, it does not leave us where it found us.
So Arise, Beloved
Arise from disappointment. Arise from yesterday. Arise from the opinions of people. Arise from the ashes of what did not work. Arise from the place where fear told you to remain.
And shine. Shine with your scars. Shine while you are healing. Shine while you are learning. Shine while you are becoming.
You do not have to wait until everything is fixed before you begin living again. Your light is not based on your perfection. It is rooted in God's faithfulness.
So lift your head, daughter of Zion. The darkness does not get the final word. Fear does not get the final word. Failure does not get the final word.
God does.
And His word to you remains: arise and shine.
You've got this, sis. And even better: God's got you.
